Ecotourism with G-B SWO

Ecotourism is the fastest growing concept within tourism which is considered to be the largest industry on planet Earth. The concept is strongly advocated by major conservation groups, globally, as a way to help conserve natural environment. Ecotourism is an impressive approach for generating income while creating incentives for conservation of the natural heritage. The World Conservation Union (IUCN) and the Ecotourism Society defines Ecotourism as "Responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the environment and sustains the well-being of local people."

In this aspect Gilgit-Baltistan Social Welfare Organization (G-B SWO) offers its services to promote the concept of Ecotourism in the region of Gilgit-Baltistan. The region has a great potential for Ecotourism and the team of G-B SWO is keen to promote this very concept. The beautiful landscape and the unique cultural heritage of Gilgit-Baltistan create a center of attention for tourists from all over the world. Every year hundreds of thousands of tourists came and visit this beautiful part of the country. In the year 2008, around 9,000 tourists, both national and international, visited this touristy part of the world. It is believed that tourism is also one of the major sources of income in different parts of Gilgit-Baltistan. Around 80% of tourists visit Pakistan just to stopover this bountiful part of the country.
